Anger Management
Is it the ability to control ones own mind? There are many theories as well as techniques. The more research I do, the more confused I get. Who’s right, who’s wrong? What will or not work for me? Do I really want to give up all my built in defenses and try to find only the good qualities in the people and situations I have to encounter?
Isn’t anger a natural defense in all animals used to protect yourself or your territory? Why does this become my problem? Instead of me being in need of anger management, why don’t the people who piss me off go to don’t piss people off classes? Redirecting your anger toward inanimate objects, punching pillows or yelling into them? Reading some of these techniques makes me laugh.
I wish I had a picture of my basement wall next to our phone to carry around me. I’d just pull it out and look at the holes in the wall left by teenage breakups, not all mine by the way. I think anger is energy, an adrenalin rush. Why do we as a society have to label everything? Why am I told I have anger management issues, but the people or things that make me angry aren’t labeled as instigators? Haven’t checked the web yet, but I’m guessing that there are no instigator management classes.
The next time you hit your thumb with a hammer, take a few seconds to try to find the good qualities in that hammer. After all, it wasn’t trying to hurt you. You never know, a great relationship my blossom. My basement wall and I are great friends, now that it knows where I stand.
